Our Method

Surface Preparation:

The start to a great finish! The difference between a paint job & a great paint job starts with the level of surface preparation.

Interior Surface Preparation:

  • Fill all existing holes & cracks
  • Sand/power sand all patch work
  • Sand/power sand any existing “hard” brush marks on wall & trim work
  • Caulk all window & baseboard joints to ensure a “soft” finish
  • Prime all bare drywall, wood, metal, & large patches

Exterior Surface Preparation:

  • Pressure wash to clean existing surface and to remove loose paint/stain
  • Scrape & sand all loosely adhering paint
  • Power sand areas with heavy paint build up (older homes)
  • Fill cracks/splinters
  • Caulk window & wood joints to ensure a tight seal
  • Prime as required

The Finish Coat: Brush, Roll, & Spray!

Brush: The key to a nice brush finish is thin coats & the addition of a leveling agent! Brush application is typical on trim and small surface areas.

Roll: Using the correct roller is key. Too thin & it is difficult to get proper coverage. Too thick & the finish is thick & sloppy. The roller is typically used to paint large surface areas.

Spray (Interior): The key to a great finish on casings, baseboards, & doors is the sprayer! As such we have invested in a “Graco 395 Finish Pro!” What does this mean? In short – a very controlled spray (high volume, low pressure) that is meant specifically for interior fine finishing.

Spray (Exterior): The sprayer is an efficient way to complete work on large exterior surfaces such as siding and fences. This is used in conjunction with a “back roll” to ensure the paint is applied evenly. The back roll also ensures that there is proper absorption when applying stain.

Our Difference

Thoughtfulness and courtesy make all the difference…

We understand that painting & renovations in general can be stressful undertakings. As such, we do our best to be as conscientious, courteous, and thoughtful as possible. What are some of the things we do?

  • Maintain a central & neat location for all tools.
  • Daily & ongoing clean up of the job site.
  • Friendly, and consistent communication with our clients.
  • We use general common sense and try to put ourselves in your shoes.

Simply put, we try to minimize our “foot print” while on site.

If there is anything further we can do while on your project, please let us know!
